Illness and credit card debt?
My father has cancer and it is making him unable to work. He has credit card debt. The only income he and my mom are getting is social security which is about $1400 a month. Their monthly bills take most of that money and nothing is left for the credit card debt.
What options are there for someone who can’t work due to illness thus making it impossible to pay the minimums on the credit cards.
Thanks for any help.
Sorry for your news. 4 years ago I too had cancer and fell into the same spot. I did not have payment protection insurance on my credit accts. The card accts didn’t care that I was sick, They had to go unpaid as well as some other things like car and mortgage after my savings was gone.
Now I am on SSDI, disibility, they have come after me but cannot take my SS income.
Sometimes you DO NOT have a choice. Getting well was way more important than my creditors.
Morally I feel guilty but that is easing with time.
I hope your Pop is OK, keep a positive attitude, the only way to beat this.
Good Luck!
